RUNNING A BUSINESS & LIFE TOGETHER
Matt and I aren’t just married—we’re also business partners, co-founders of BENCHMARK FITNESS (now a full gym and recovery facility!), and co-creators of a life designed with intention. We've been in business together for over five years, and while it’s been amazing, it definitely hasn’t been without its “learning curves” (hello, pandemic gym closures and long commute days).
But through it all, one thing remains clear: supporting each other in our growth and momentum seasons makes all the difference.
DIVIDE, CONQUER, & STAY IN YOUR LANE (LOVINGLY)
We’ve learned to really honor our individual strengths. Matt is definitely the cook in the house (no debate), while I tend to thrive in content creation, programming, and running the behind-the-scenes admin of our business. Every evening, while he whips up something delicious in the kitchen, I find my flow in our office, knocking out tasks in quiet productivity.
It’s this rhythm—this shared respect for each other’s superpowers—that helps us move the needle without stepping on each other’s toes.
MORNINGS THAT SET THE TONE
Let’s be real: when you’re in a busy season, how you start your day really matters.
We’re big believers in the magic of slow mornings. Even with early starts at the gym, we wake up around 6 a.m., make coffee in real mugs (yes, that matters), cuddle the dogs in our robes, and use this time to sync up. These are our mini “morning meetings”—less corporate, more cozy. We compare calendars, review the day’s priorities, and make sure we’re aligned.
It’s amazing how this simple ritual has brought so much ease and connection to our life. And yes, sometimes it’s journaling and mindfulness. Other times, it’s just real talk about appointments, podcast tapings, or which one of us gets the car that day (we only have one!).
COMMUNICATION IS THE WHOLE GAME
If there’s one thing we can’t stress enough, it’s communication. Whether it’s a color-coded shared calendar or a fridge schedule, we check in daily and weekly. Sundays are our “at-a-glance” days—when we map out the week’s energy output (social plans, work stuff, recovery time), and make sure we’re not overbooking or burning out.
Even if you don’t work together, syncing up like this with your partner can create so much more flow in your life. It’s not just about logistics—it’s about being in tune with how the other person is feeling, what they need, and how you can support their growth while holding space for your own.
PRIORITIZE YOUR ENERGY BATTERY
Especially in seasons of expansion (hello, 2025 energy!), we’re extra mindful about our capacity. We limit social commitments, we rest more, we move our bodies daily, and we try—really try—to be in bed by 10 p.m. Getting solid sleep and starting our day on the right foot is non-negotiable.
Also: movement. For us, exercise isn’t about aesthetics—it’s a cornerstone of mental, emotional, and physical health. We make it a priority because it fuels everything else.
